Viking Air, Ltd - Tour of the Calgary Hangar
The meeting night of September 15th will include a tour of the Viking Air, Ltd. Hangar where they are building the newest version of the Twin Otter aircraft.
July meeting is a potluck BBQ - invite a friend!
Our July 21st meeting night will be at the same time (7:00) and place (SAIT Art Smith Aerocentre) of our regular meetings, but will be a potluck BBQ with friends. In lieu of our annual Open House in the Fall, we decided to go ahead with a more casual way of letting people get to know us with a hangar BBQ. The meeting is still open to the public (as all our get-togethers are), we just ask that you e-mail to: rmhexecutive@hotmail.com so that we know how many burgers to cook. All members are encouraged to invite a friend (or 3) and to bring a side dish / beverage. See you there!
Bi-monthly event moved to June 16th!!
On the June 16th meeting night, we will be having a guest speaker, Arron Edworthy from CYBW Tower. Aaron will be coming to our meeting to speak to us, but he is also willing to try to set up a Tower Tour of the CYYC Tower following his presentation. As always everyone is welcome, but if you are interested in the tour it would be best to RSVP to rmhexecutive@hotmail.com.
Garage Sale MOVED to June 5th
Due to the inclement weather forcast for the weekend of May 29th (rain and snow, ugh!), it has been decided to move the Garage Sale to the following weekend and will now be on June 5th, starting at 8 am.
Explosives Ltd. - Great Presentation
The pictures pretty much said it all, from high columns of flame and smoke to the planes flying nearly overhead, it's obviously an exciting job! Dave Metcalfe has been doing airshow pyrotechnics during the summer for quite a number of years and has all the know-how to make it look (and sound) amazing. Dave has an extensive background in explosives, such that the work he does for airshows is just one aspect of it and he even holds a patent on using explosives to de-fuel a tanker truck safely in 30 minutes - hopefully he doesn't have to use that one too often.
Dave Metcalfe of Explosives Limited at our March 17th meeting!
Check out the notes in our Calendar for our meeting on March 17th to learn all about what's happening - should be some cool (or should I say hot) videos! Everyone is welcome!!
AGM on April 21st, 2010
Everyone is welcome to our AGM, we usually have some drinks & snacks and a short 20-30 min official AGM where we get the yearly business out of the way and then a regular meeting - as we need 2/3rds of our members in attendance for a vote, it's usually a good time to meet the group and see what we do.
Thanks to all who attended our Open House!
It was nice to see a number of new faces as well as our regular members, thanks to all for attending! Thanks also to Lisa for giving us a tour of the hangar and to the members that provided sugary (and healthy) goodies.
Cancellation of event for September Meeting
Our speaker was unexpectedly called away and it is unlikely that she will be available to speak at our meeting this Wednesday. We will try to re-schedule for another time.
Working in the Antarctic!
Stephanie Zalatnik has confirmed that she will be available to talk to our group about her 6 month stint working in the Antarctic with the British Antarctic Survey team. So make sure to attend our next meeting on September 16th to hear what it's like to work on the other end of the world! (Meetings are open to the general public, no fees or sign-up required).
