Welcome to the Rocky Mountain High Chapter
Welcome to the Alberta Rocky Mountain High Chapter of Canadian Women in Aviation, the northern component of Women in Aviation, International. Our chapter focuses on encouraging the enjoyment and discovery of all aspects of aviation, for both business and pleasure. We meet on the third Wednesday of every month at SAIT Art Smith Aero Centre at 7:00 pm. Please come by and meet us!

Red-Tailed Hawk at the March Meeting!!
I’m very pleased to announce our March event which is a presentation by Suze from AIWC (Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation), who will be accompanied by the clinic director and their in-training education animal - a female red-tail hawk!!
Suze is planning on speaking about AIWC's history and the wonderful work that the organization does for Alberta's native wildlife and the conservation of our natural geography, as well as the history of wildlife conservation and the connection between wildlife and aviation.
Cookbook
Two of our members have taken on the challenge of organizing a cookbook for our chapter to publish for fundraising - thank you Nicole and Karen M!! It sounds like it should be fun with food titles like “Afterburner Chili” or “Cessna Soup” and other aviation related names, including some interesting facts about women in aviation in Canada. We are hoping to have them ready by June, so more information to come!
It's been busy
Gearing up for the holidays and then unwinding from the holidays seems to take more time each year. I didn't get the entries in here that I should have, but Nikki kept our Calendar up to date - so if you don't see new notes here, check out the Calendar to see what we are up to. For those who would like to know what's been happening since the last entry, I've filled in a few things here.
Logo discussion and visit
This month's meeting will be all about discussing the proposed Logo ideas and then heading over to the local watering hole to toast our endeavors and have a chance to visit. If you are a first time attendee it's a great chance to meet people in an easy-going environment, and if you haven't been in a while it's a perfect time to come by and catch up!
Potluck BBQ - Invitation only
The Calgary chapter of Women in Aviation is holding their 2nd annual potluck BBQ on July 20th. This year we will have the historic Sabre Hawk One parked outside the hangar!! The Hawk One (http://www.hawkone.ca/) is stopping in Calgary at the same time as our BBQ, so it will be on display during the event. This is an Invitation Only event, but I would be happy to invite you if you are interested in getting to know more about Women in Aviation – if you would like to attend please contact us at rmhexeutive@hotmail.com.
Nanton - Planes, Trains and Elevators Event June 4
Our Chapter will have an information booth up in the Museum in Nanton on Saturday June 4 during this fun event and a number of us will be checking out all the exhibits and hanging out for the day - come join us! Event information can be found at: http://www.bombercommandmuseum.ca/event2011pte.html.
Writing Seminar - FREE!
On our next meeting night (March 16th) we have the wonderful opportunity for a free writing seminar from our very own Shirlee Smith-Matheson. Shirlee has been writing, and helping others to write, for over 10 years and has several books published - check her out at Shirlee at www.ssmatheson.ca. This is a free event, all that we request is that you let us know if you wish to attend so that we can have enough hand-outs ready - please e-mail rmhexecutive@hotmail.com.
Chocolate!!
There will be some at the next meeting to entice people to come to this very important meeting night. We will be talking about all the upcoming events that are clogging up our calendar. For members it should be a great opportunity to be informed about everything on the horizon all at once, and to get a chance to catch up with friends. For the general public it should be a great meeting to learn about our group and meet a number of the members, so if you are interested in learning more about us come on out to the meeting!
